Who Is Valdez?
Jesse Valdez (Michael Jesse X-ON Valdez as it will appear on the ballot) is a lifelong resident of the West Valley/Kearns area, with deep connections to the community he calls home. Growing up in Kearns, Jesse experienced firsthand the challenges and opportunities that shape this unique community.
As a former student of Western Hills Elementary and a graduate of Hunter High School, Jesse's educational foundation was built right here in our local school system. He currently resides in the Western Hills region (District 1) where he has lived for the past 6 years.
Jesse holds a certificate in General Studies and an Associate's Degree in Communications TV/Video Production. During his college years, he created the club "Sports Rally," brought intramural activities to campus (including tackle football), and ran for Student Body President.
With nearly 8 years of experience as a Photojournalist at KTVX ABC4 News, Jesse focuses on visual storytelling and showcasing community impacts. Currently, he works at the Utah Department of Corrections, where he continues to serve the public and individuals under supervision.
He carries forward the camera lens and creative eye to capture compelling moments, making a difference through his unique visual perspective. His professional background has taught him how to listen actively, build consensus among diverse stakeholders, and implement effective solutions to complex problems - all skills that are essential for leading our city forward.
Family Values
At the heart of Jesse's life are his beloved wife and two children. He dedicates every possible moment to them, often found enjoying Utah's beautiful landscapes through camping and various outdoor activities.
Jesse deeply values his connections, believing that family and friends are everything. He's known for uplifting everyone he encounters, ensuring no one is overlooked.
Beyond cherished time with loved ones, he stays active through sports and is passionately committed to being a voice for the voiceless. Whether through his photojournalism, sharing untold stories, or simply speaking up, these values are woven into the fabric of his daily life.
Community Leadership
Recognizing the need for better community connection and information sharing, Jesse founded the "K-TOWN" Facebook community group. This platform has grown to connect over 35,000 Kearns residents, creating a virtual town square where community members can:
Share important local information
Discuss community issues and concerns
Organize community events and initiatives
Support local businesses and organizations
Build stronger neighborhood connections
The success of the K-TOWN group demonstrates Jesse's ability to bring people together and leverage modern tools to strengthen community bonds. It also showcases his understanding of the importance of accessible communication channels for effective community engagement.
Personal Message
"Kearns is more than just a place; it's a part of who we are. Whether you've lived here your whole life, once called it home, or have returned to its embrace, there is one thing we all share: a flame that burns brightly within us. This community may be diverse in many ways, but we are united in a singular goal: to see Kearns thrive.
I come from a long line of Kearns residents. My family has deeply rooted ties to this place, and the passion they have for this community ignited a fire in me from a very young young age. I grew up here, attending Western Hills Elementary, riding my bike down the steep hills, playing in the streets with my friends, and discovering the beauty and uniqueness that Kearns offers.
I believe everything happens in its own time, and I know now is the right time for me to run for the Mayor of Kearns. It's the right moment to face the challenges of today, to offer solutions, and to ensure that the people of Kearns have the support and representation they deserve.
To me, being an elected official isn't just a governing body; it's a channel for outreach and advocacy. The role of those in positions is simple: to listen, to understand, and to speak with honesty and transparency in service of those we represent.
We may not always agree on everything, but the beauty of this community is that we all aspire toward the same vision: a stronger, more vibrant Kearns. Together, we can bridge the gap between differences and find common ground to move forward as one."
